It is a record-breaking number for the region: Faro Airport received nine million passengers throughout 2019.
The news was announced at the end of December by Aeroportos de Portugal (ANA). The numbers represent an increase of one million passengers in only two years.
The latest renovations done in the southern airport were fruitful. By refurbishing the terminals, ANA’s goal was to increase passenger processing capacity in the region. That is certainly the case, as never has the Algarve seen so many people flying in.
The airport located in the capital of the Algarve is one of the main catalysts for the region, developing, with the help of several private and state partners, the city and its surroundings.
In the announcement, ANA stated that this was the result from the “synergies” between entities and the flying community, striving “to ensure the daily improvement of air accessibility in the Algarve region and quality passenger service.”
