Starting May 16th, 2025, the Algarve takes a major step forward in international accessibility: United Airlines will begin operating direct flights between Faro and New York/Newark Airport.
This exciting development marks the first-ever direct connection between Faro and the United States, making it significantly easier for American travelers to explore the Algarve—and for residents and investors in the region to travel to the U.S.
The route will operate three times a week, every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday, from May 16th to September 26th, 2025. Flights will depart from New York at 9:50 p.m. and arrive in Faro at 10:00 a.m. the next day. Return flights will leave Faro at 11:45 a.m., landing in Newark at 3:05 p.m. (local time).
This new air connection is a powerful boost for the Algarve’s visibility on the global map—especially in the real estate and tourism sectors. With easier access, American buyers and investors now have a more convenient way to explore property opportunities in the region. This is particularly relevant given the increasing interest from international clients looking for a second home or a lifestyle change in Portugal’s sunny south.
The initiative is supported by the ANA/Vinci airport group, in collaboration with the Tourism Region of the Algarve and Turismo de Portugal.
